SOC Fundraising
SOC Heart
For more than 60 years, the Sociology Department has been growing along with the University, and the warm memories testify to all of our achievements and accomplishments. Thanks to the generous donations that we received in the past years, the Department has been able to establish two funds in 2005 to support students’ experiential learning activities and the Department’s development initiatives.
1. Student Fund
Students who receive the Fund have had the opportunity to participate in academic exchanges abroad, local and overseas internship programs, volunteer opportunities abroad, as well as other activities, which have greatly enriched their learning experience outside the classroom. The Student Fund is particularly important to students with financial barriers and those who are the first generation in their family to attend university. Between 2005 and 2017, over 260 students benefited from this fund. The annual total expenditure of the fund is about $30,000, and currently, there is only a balance of $15,000. The good work of the Student Fund is counting on your generosity and support. Please donate and make a difference in a student’s life.
2. Sociology Department Development Fund
The Sociology Department Development Fund has contributed towards the enrichment of our programmes, and improvement of the standards and quality of our teaching and research. We are now preparing to launch some new initiatives of community outreach. Aiming at promoting and advancing Sociology as a profession and discipline, we hope to publish articles online and on social media, organize public seminars and distinguished lectures, and conduct workshops that focus on social issues and social research, which would engage secondary school teachers, students and non-governmental organization staff members.
We sincerely hope that you would express your care for the students and support the work of the Department. The government is going to launch the Matching Grant Scheme, which will match donations dollar for dollar, or two dollars to one dollar, on a first come first serve basis. Therefore, we encourage you to complete and return the donation form at your earliest convenience to maximize your donation. Since we have not been informed the commencement date of the Scheme, please issue a crossed cheque dated on 1 January 2019 (see instructions in the donation form).
