Chinese Entrepreneurship and Overseas Chinese in the Global Context 

Prerequisite:

The Chinese entrepreneurship and ethnic Chinese businesses have been a global phenomenon, particularly in Southeast Asia, the United Stated, Canada, and Australia. The development of Chinese entrepreneurship involves many important theoretical and emipircal issues, including its formation and development process, political impacts, socio-economic consequences, as well as the everyday life of overseas Chinese. This course combines an analysis of theoretical issues related to the phenomenon of Chinese entrepreneurship. It explores issues regarding the formation and growth of the Chinese entrepreneurship; Chinese entrepreneurship across and within different Chinese ethnic economies; political, economic, and social consequences of Chinese entrepreneurship; and the life of overseas Chinese. In addition, we will cover some theoretical discussions and debates surrounding the role of Chinese entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurs; and most importantly, the intersections between ethnicity, class, nativity, and identity within the Chinese ethnic economies.
